Session 8 - individual task 3

I still choose squid 3 as the best image for following reasons: 1. Signaling: Highlight the main features' names and show the 3-D body of squis to let audiences focus on important information. 2. Redundancy: there are no repeat when it shows the same information of squid in the form of texts and pictures. 3.Spatial contiguity: Post critical and related words next to images. 4. Emotional Interaction: blue color shows trust. This is an acedamical poster about squid, therefore the blue can give people a feeling of believable. 5. Use different types of sympols to present different animals instead of many texts, which can let audiences learner better. TYPHOON Reedit the first page as it has more information and problem. Previous: Reedited: Althought the previous one has some highlight with different type of texts, but it still make people feel confused as there are too much white words. The new one use signaling and spatial contiguity principl...

Session 8 - individual task 3

1) Emotional State: the background of this poster is warm colour (yellow), and the colour of squid is dark in colour, thus the background colour can protrude the squid. 2) Segmenting Principle: the information are segmented into different small paragraphs, thus readers can easily read through all the information. 3) Multimedia Principle: image and words are presented together instead of words alone. 4) Coherence Principle: all the images are related to the topic, extra image was not presented in this poster. 5) Redundancy Principle: redundant captions were not presented in narrated animation. 1) Segmenting Principle: Steps of typhoon formation are segmented into three steps. 2) Spatial contiguity: Position critical term (the eye) next to the image. 3) Signaling Principle: Key words are highlighted in red colour. 4) Multimedia Principle: Words are images are presented together. The reason why I changed my choice is because I have referred to Mayer's principles an...

Session 8-individual task 3

Re-choose the poster of squid. I would choose the third poster for following reasons: 1. The information on the poster is presented in short texts rather than words, which makes audiences learn better. 2. There are many images for comparing and know the specific size and living environment of squids, helping audiences learn better. 3. In terms of emotional design, audiences can have a good feeling of observing this poster because this image of squid does not frighten audiences, and this poster has an academic feeling to audiences. 4. Also, the color use in this poster is quite comfortable for audience. 5. The contents of this poster is much better than others because this one is more informative and practical. Re-design the PPT of typhoon.

Session 8 - online task 3 - Kevin Cheng

Session 8 - online task 3 - Kevin Cheng Use of warm color (blue) to induce positive emotion The highlight in red for regions in which the squid resides does not have any redundancy problem as it doesn't include the country name next to the country, which is redundant. The positioning of the critical terms next to the squid is spatial contiguity, which picture one failed to produce The critical terms are highlighted, which shows signaling effect The problem with the original picture I chose is that the geographical map contains redundant element in the form of the country's name Originally, there's a lot of text for the first slide, now removed extraneous words (coherence). Rearranged to signal key terms by red (signaling). In the second slide, there were redundancy as captions state what was being stated already within the captions of the picture. Now redundancy is reduced with simpl...

Session 8 - individual task 2 - Kevin Cheng DSO Kids -  https://www.mydso.com/dso-kids/learn-and-listen/instruments Content quality  - For kids learning the instruments, there is ample details with a picture, description, its family as well as an audio file of the instrument's sound. Feedback and adaptation - There is a lack of feedback since this is a website with one-way communication only. There is a feedback section within the website, but we can imagine that the channel will be slow moving, where adaptation will be very sluggish and takes a long time to implement. Presentation design - There is a neat visual presentation with bright but not overwhelming colors to attract viewers. Auditory information is also present to enhance learning. Session 7 - individual task 4 - Kevin Cheng

Session 7 - individual task 4 - Kevin Cheng Uses a warm color (blue) and round shapes to induce positive emotions and facilitate learners' emotion. The use of messages such as "The best master's degrees" to invoke an instinctive feeling of positivity. The use of "most affordable" phrase is to make people feel that they have obtained a bargain

Session 7 - individual task 3 - Kevin Cheng

Session 7 - individual task 3 - Kevin Cheng The poster on the left presents an aesthetically pleasing face which will be more effective through their sensual appeal. As people wants to look like the beautiful model, they will link the use of this lipstick to a step in becoming beautiful. The two posters were used because putting all information into one would cause information overload. As such, two posters were used where the one on the left is used to attract people's attention through the vibrant model's face, while the one on the right provides more information for attracted consumers to find further information on how to obtain it.

session 7- task 4

This one contains many softwares and apps to engage people into this program. After seeing this poster, people can think how they use these multimedia softwares to improve their learning. Also, this design gives people a sense of technology because we are in 21st century. We can use more effective way to learn. And technology connects everyone together closely.

Session 7 task 4

Session 7 individual task 4

The AI shows an emotion status which tells people who are think of being an IT expert can come to look for our program. Also, it shows that expert can also seek for HKU MITE's help to become more professional. The orange picture shows that our program would use different high-tech channel to teach students.

Session 7 individual task 3

1) What are the design features? - (Left hand side) Emotion state: the woman who uses lipstick has smiley face. It just told consumers that using the same lipstick will have good, happy and confident appearance like her.  - (Right hand side) Signaling Principle: using words to attract consumers' attention. The dark background colour highlights the colour of lipsticks, so as to create a "light up" effect. 2) Why two posters? - Left hand side is to fit successful career women, to attract them to use it when they are working. - Right hand side is to fit for those women who are dating with others, to attract them to use in leisure time when they hang out with others.

session 7 -task 3

design features: Using a picture of a mature lady who rouging the lip to attract people's attention, which makes people accept their products. It will enhance people's emotional acceptance to this product. When you use this, you can become more attracting like this lady on the poster. The other poster shows their product only. It focuses more on the products' feature itself as an introduction for this products with less emotional intake. Why two posters? One for attracting people and grabbing their eyes to make more people know this products; another for making more people know more about the products's features and functions.

session 7 task 3

Even the two posters are talking about the same messages - the new lipstick's products, but they are related and not redundancy because their foci are different. The left one can attract people with a model and some positive to engage people to buy the products, while the products' information only is shown at the right corner. The model in left one wants to show how beautiful ladies are if they use the new products, which can attract people. After getting people's attention, the right poster's focus is to show more detailed information about the lipsticks.

Session 7 - individual task 1 - Kevin Cheng

Session 7 - individual task 1 - Kevin Cheng Don't like Edmodo I don't really like using this website because it is overloaded with unnecessary information (invite your parents part), and the files in which the teachers upload to the class is often obscured and in difficult to find places. Dropbox The application is very good to use, but the website design is of a sub-par quality. The files cannot be dragged and dropped easily to other folders, and the clicking mechanic is also frustrating with many miss-clicks. Overall the control to the website is quite clumsy. Like Google Drive Unlike Dropbox, the website design of google drive is very good. The quick access toolbar allows easy access to recent files, while the drag and drop function is also very fluid. YouTube The website design is clean and neat, with easily accessible history and playlists.

session 7- task 2

Do you have any more suggestions? I think if this design can use more animated design to show the idea like this will be more clear. This one shows the ideas very clear, and use of the picture of smile and the explanation makes everyone coming from different countries understand immediately.

session 7 task 2

suggestion: 1.Maybe the company put cushions on the seat to let customs feel more comfortable. 2.Color change: Green and blue color give people relaxing and safe emotion.

Session 7 individual task 2

I think MTR can change the colour into yellow, because the emoji should be in yellow colour. Besides, I think Hong Kong can take Japan (specialized carriage for women) as a reference to set up a specialized carriage for those who are in need. And can colour inner- and outer- carriage in yellow.

Re-uploaded my session 6 presentation script

Selection of Narrative Format https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxInWagSaA0 Here's comes to the part of selection of narrative format. Sorry that one of our groupmate, Mindy , is going to attend wedding dinner tonight, so I will represent her to present her part. Selection of narrative format includes three parts which are informational, personal and dramatic narrative presentation format. For informational format, it is used when the designer is creating instruction that deals with factual material that will be processed by the listener. Information will be presented in a "new-like" style. For personal format, it is made to actively involve the listener in the material provided in the audio presentation. Information will be presented in a conversationa; tone and the listener is acknowledged frequently. For dramatic format, it is well suited to help students grasp the passion of Romeo and Juliet's work. I will show you the example of person...

session 7 task 1

Share two websites that you don’t like and two that you like to use (please explain why) like:  1. https://www.bilibili.com/video/ent.html    This website has various kinds of video for customs to find what they want. Also, the website design is user-friendly and pictures of videos' covers are attracting. 2. https://www.edx.org/ This website offers lots of top universities' courses for learners to choose. The categories of courses and universities can be easily found. Besides, the picture of the homepage (girl's smile face) can let learners feel that study is an interesting thing. dislike: www.baidu.com It always shows me some advertisement when I search information, which will distract me.

session 7 task1

Here are two websites I like and dislike https://www.bilibili.com I like this website because its design is quite lovely and practical. In this website, I can find videoes I want to watch because it has a clear classification for audiences to find the videoes they want to watch. And in this website, audiences can communicate with each other in the comment area. Also, this website update videoes very often, and some people even upload interesting videoes from youtube. And in some special festivals, like New Years Day, this designer of this website make special live for audiences. The designer will invite famous ups to their lives. http://kissanime.ru I dislike this website mainly because of its disordered design, which makes it unpractical. The designer of this website also does not divide videoes into different classes for people to search conveniently. What's worse, there are many needless ads on this website. When I click the video to watch, it will check whether I am a r...

Session 5 - individual task 1 - Kevin Cheng PACT analysis - PH Value Interactive exercise https://lab.codemao.cn/work/894716   People - for F1 F1 has low cognitive characteristics and low span of attention, thus a one page interactive exercise can stimulate their attention A simple interactive app caters for all different kinds of physical ability of F1, except the disabled They have very little experience, but for those learners with high ability, they may know about it already and thus it could be quite useless for them The application only uses English and thus may neglect those whose native language is not English It doesn't cater to special, as those with colour blindness would defeat the whole purpose of educating phenolphthalein's effect As it is intended to be used within a classroom context for high school, it is a homogenous user group with very little age difference Activities Goal is to let them learn about knowledge of PH value through an inter...

Session 3 - task 3

Explanation of my design 1) The information is clear and neat. The slogan "You have multiple ways to learn" tells students that they can learn by using multimedia. 2) The picture that I selected can clearly show that this course is related to multimedia. 3) Redundancy Principle: extra or useless pictures and words were not shown on this cover page 4) The colourful picture without any words can draw students' attention and inspire them to think about the below slogan "You have multiple ways to learn" 5) The background is white in colour, so students will mainly focus on the picture and the slogan

Online Course 1 - Process 2 - Kevin Cheng

Online Course 1 - Process 2 - Kevin Cheng https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0i5rycLJ3D8 This is a video made to give people the general knowledge of a car windows’ physical properties as well as information on how to effectively break through them should the need to escape from one arises. The ‘teacher’ is called Destin, and throughout the video he constantly refers to the viewers as ‘you’, which envelops the learning in a conversational style rather than a formal style. This is an application of the concept “Personalization” . The entire video is presented by Destin’s voice, thus his natural human voice brings more emotions and impacts than a machine voice, hence this supports the “Voice” principle. As Destin is present throughout the video interacting with the camera, his face is clearly visible, making the video feel more interactive (the use of “Image” principle). In the beginning (0:25-1:08), Destin first gives us an insight into the differences between a car’s...

Online Course - task 1

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=viHILXVY_eU&t=70 The aim of this video is to tell people what e-learning is and its advantages, although it is an advertisement actually. From my perspective, this learning resource achieves its goals to tell audiences definition and benefits of e-learning with applying following principles. 1. Coherence Principle – There is no extraneous words and unrelated pictures during the whole video. For example, when definite e-learning, only “electronic learning” occurs; when explain e-learning tools with pictures, only related images - audio, video, interactive games and simulations - on the screen. 2. Signaling Principle –  Some important informations are highlighted to make audiences learn better. 3. Redundancy Principle – No much texts on screen when explain why e-learning is more cost-saving than traditional class.   4. Spatial Contiguity Principle – E-learning learners can take courses from all around the world 24 hours a da...
